My name's Bailey Kilpatrick. I work for Swarm Farm Robotics. What we have behind us here is a 24 metre machine with a weeded system on it. Behind our fully autonomous robot, we feature a diesel powered engine with a hydraulic pump stack stacked on the back of it. It's a full diesel system with hydraulic drive, steel, chassis, rubber tires.
So what we've got is a lightweight machine. It does 10 kilometres an hour, across the board. So when it's working in the field, it'll do 10 kilometres an hour when it's traveling from paddock to paddock in a mapped area, it's got four wheel drive, an articulated steer, so it'll follow its own path.
Everything that you map in the paddock, it'll traverse around. For example, you've got a clump of trees or a power pole. You map that in and then it'll form a path around it. Once it knows it's there, it can drive around that obstacle. We've got obstacle avoidance if anything's missed or if there's an unplanned vehicle.
For example, a quad bike that gets left on the headland, it'll stop for that and they send you a notification through to your phone and then you can override it manually on your phone.
Or you go out, visit the machine and drive it around. Now that's done on a WiFi connection. So with your iOS device being your iPhone or iPad, you can manually move this machine.
Moving from paddock to paddock, if it's within a, a private area, you can operate it autonomously. If you need to cross a public road, you will need to tow it with another vehicle. We've got a tow kit that can go on the front, and that's how you do that safely.
We use a farm manager software system to plan all your paddocks. So from the beginning of your journey with automation, your data and map quality is key. Once you take the step into automation, mapping your boundaries and your obstacles accurately is the first step. The next step is implementing the plan and then setting the robot to work is done via an app that we've built.
The technology that is game changing is the spot spraying market. It's a job that's often labour intensive and very time consuming.
