RMIT: Introduction to RMIT School of Art

Welcome to photography at RMIT. Set in the heart of Melbourne city centre, we offer a range of creative programs from our bachelor of photography, honours, masters of photography, and higher research degrees.

Boasting highly professional facilities including capture studios, fine art large format photography printing, photography and media editing suites and computer labs, studio classrooms and on-site galleries. Students can gain hands-on experience.

The best aspect so far that I've seen is the community that we have between the students and the course itself. If anyone needs anything, we help each other out. It's really nice to have my fellow students looking out for me and I'll look out for them as well.

I studied photography at RMIT and I was interested in being back in an environment that critiques and picks apart my work in a critical way that informs my practice moving forward.

We've built some really beautiful relationships and friendships where we all assist each other and learn from each other and then like the staff come in and out and give us advice and it lifts us all up.

I feel like it's super hands-on. All of the teachers are really knowledgeable. The spaces and the equipment are amazing.

What I love most about studying at RMIT is definitely just working with other people who are really passionate about photography and the studio space and the ability to hire equipment when we don't have a budget to buy it ourself is pretty amazing.

The facilities at RMIT are really amazing. It's very digital based uni. We've got unlimited access to all of the lighting equipment, studio space.

Here's the technicians as well, who just can advise us on what we're doing, which is really cool. I learned so much from that and skills that I've been able to take from the studio onto real sets and onto my shoots, which has been really, really cool.

The best aspect of photography at RMIT would be the freedom, the endless opportunities and possibilities to go wherever you want to and explore your passion as openly and freely as you can.

I'm really looking forward to meeting people in the industry, getting good connections, and really just learning photography in a city which is known for its creativity and diverse background, such a creative city.

I met so many people outside of the degree who I work with as well, which is amazing. And then like bringing them into my projects for uni is like really fun thing to do as well.

I guess the thing I'm most excited about learning is how to make my way into the industry and how to navigate all of that, which I wouldn't really be able to know unless I was studying here.

I'm really excited to continue to learn with my peers and use the equipment and just meet new people and also the resources as in the teachers and having these guest lecturers come in has elevated my thinking on photography not just the image making.

We give students the opportunity to explore a range of photographic genres whether it's fashion, documentary, fine art, landscape or editorial through each course we have curated an integrated approach to understanding.

Understanding conceptual, ethical, technical, and professional practice so that every photographer is equipped with the skills for their future career and with the confidence of developing their own unique creative voice.
