La Trobe: Digital Transformation in Healthcare

Welcome to the Latrobe University City Campus and tonight's fabulous event on digital transformation in healthcare challenges and opportunities.

I think if we look at healthcare delivery today there are so many challenges. We've got rapid rise of chronic conditions, we've got escalating costs, we've got a very jaded and tired workforce and to be very honest we can't provide appropriate care if we continue to do the same as we are doing.

Lots of different people are engaged in this space. We do need to be working together.

There's lots of different perspectives on how to move forwards and the key is collaboration. No one individual or one group can provide the solutions.

I think we're learning how to deliver care the way patients need care to be delivered, and want care to be delivered. We're delivering the right care in the right place and at the right time, and using digital technology going to be an enabler. That transforms the way that we deliver healthcare and that we're heading into a brighter better future where we can deliver consumer focused care that delivers specific care to individual needs, but also delivers care

in different ways that's not only beneficial to patients but also to the healthcare system.

Analytics is a great way to be able to improve healthcare.

We need governance. We talked a lot about governance and how important it is to be able to have a core mindset, to be able to make sure that we are training things appropriately using artificial intelligence appropriately, and not falling behind the rest of the world.

This is a great time to be involved in health. We're already in a great healthcare environment and digital transformation will make that even better.

Number one, is that University industry collaboration is essential.

Number two, is that the digital transformation of health in Australia is essential for the health of future Australians, so we need technology to enable us to provide the sort of care that we would like to have and receive for ourselves and our loved ones.

And if we have technology to enable us, we can uplift and upskill the workforce in a precise and personalised health care, and we can be able to address chronic conditions like diabetes, cancer and dementia.

I think it's important to embrace artificial intelligence and digital health solutions and to understand how they are helping us to provide every day, for everyone, everywhere the best possible health care, that's precise, personalised and leads to high clinical outcomes.
